Ground Power Units (GPU)

A Ground Power Unit, or GPU for short, is the power supply equipment that provides power for both maintenance and engine starting in aircraft that are on the ground.

A Ground Power Unit can be either a fixed or mobile unit which can be connected to the electrical system of an aircraft. The Ground Power Unit can be either battery-powered or diesel-driven.

High-power transformers and large storage chokes for Ground Power Units are a rapidly growing market for Kohsel.

There are several reasons to use Ground Power Units in aircraft:

  • Provides clean power for both maintenance and engine starting
  • Helps to reduce emissions, fuel costs and noise pollution around airports while the aircraft is taxiing
